Moving house is an exiting time. You’re starting a new chapter somewhere else and leaving the old behind. Now you just have to figure out how you are going to pack and relocate your belonging without breaking the bank, or your back.
Don’t let the stress of packing, labelling, folding and carrying take the fun out of moving day. With help of our nifty packing guide and some careful planning, you will be as organised as one can be come moving day.
PLAN AHEAD OF TIME
A key component to a successful move is planning ahead of your moving date. It’s a good idea to sit down and draft up a checklist. The list should include a timeline of what to pack and when. Logically, there are items in your home you don’t need on a daily basis, these items can be package well ahead of time. You can start packing your off-season items several weeks ahead of your moving out date. To make your move even easier, you can store the already prepared boxes in an affordable storage facility. At Express Furniture Removals, we offer a range of storage options for both long-term and short-term needs.
DECLUTTER, DOWNSIZE & DONATE
Sometimes you have to let go of some things in order to start fresh. Moving house is an excellent opportunity to clear out what you no longer need and give to someone who does. Create three different categories and label them ‘sell’, ‘donate’ and ‘trash’. Better yet, invite your friends over to help you pack, and encourage them to take away items you don’t need anymore. By getting rid of thing you no longer need you will have less to pack, less to move and less to unpack – you’ll start your life in a new space with a clean slate.
USE THE RIGHT BOXES
The last thing you want is a box falling apart while you’re trying to move it out of your old house or into the new. Therefore, it’s a good idea to invest in some quality boxes. It can be tempting to use grocery boxes or reused moving boxes to save a few dollars. However these can be compromised due to wear and exposure to moisture or worse, a bug infestation. At Express Furniture Removals we only use high quality packing materials purchased from Visy. Visy cardboard boxes are made from recycled fibre and kraft paper and are the most durable moving material on the market.
LABEL EACH BOX & SORT BY CATEGORY
You’ve made your list, you decluttered and you purchased your boxes and packing materials. Now, it’s time to do the actual packing. Label each box with the room it’s destined for and a description of its content. This will help you and/or your removalists figure out what goes where in your new home. Make sure you pack your boxes without any gaps or empty spaces. This will help ensure your items are stored securely and balanced to avoid any breakage.

PROTECT YOUR BELONGINGS
We have all gathered some very beloved items throughout the years and it would cause a heartache if any of them broke during your move. Use bubble wrap or packing paper to pad all your fragile glass ware and decorative items. Make sure you wrap each of your fragile items separately so they’re fully cushioned. Never place any fragile items in boxes freely without some extra cushion. Spend time packing these items correctly to save you stress and heartache in the long run.
Also, you have to make sure your belongings are insured during transit or in storage. When you have your belongings in your house, you have them covered with a Home and Contents Policy. This policy may not cover you when your goods are in transit. At Express Furniture removals we can provide the insurance cover required for your belongings.
BOOK YOUR REMOVALIST
Even if you have family and friends who are more than happy to lend a hand on moving day, it’s always best to leave the heavy lifting to a trustworthy team of removal experts. The amount of work a removalist can take off your plate during and already stressful time will be well worth the cost.
